“I Found What I Was Missing”: Elina's magier Story
Elina is one of magier’s talented graphic designers. Originally from Belarus and now based in Poland, she brings a unique mix of curiosity, calm energy, and creative flair to the team. In this interview, she shares her journey from freelancing to finding community and growth at magier.

Could You Introduce Yourself & Your Journey Before magier?
I’m Elina AKA Elly. Before joining magier, I was freelancing, mostly for tech and healthcare companies, and I also took on some smaller fashion projects that I loved. Freelancing taught me a lot about independence and structure, but I was really craving a sense of team. I mentioned that to Sina during our chats, and now I’m here – and I’m so happy about that!
I’m from Belarus but have lived in Poland for the last three years. I love how international it’s become. So many languages in the streets, so many people from around the world. I’m learning Polish, but right now I mostly talk about my dog with people in the street. Before design, I actually studied philology and was on track to become a university professor, but I didn’t enjoy it. I was scared of kids haha! So I switched, took design courses, and with the help of friends, I got my first project. I’ll never forget earning my first $20 – it was so motivating.
Where Did You First Hear About magier?
I think it was on LinkedIn! I had seen magier pop up a few times, and then later I saw a job post on another site. It felt familiar and exciting. When I got the test task, I was genuinely happy to dive in.
Walk Us Through a Typical Day
I wake up early because of my dog – he has a lot of energy! After a long walk, I make my matcha (I quit coffee this spring) and sometimes cook breakfast. I chat a bit with my husband if he's home, then I start work. My mornings are the most productive, so I try to do the more challenging tasks early. After lunch, I slow down a bit and like to wind down with a book. Lately I’m into financial topics, investing, and even crypto. I also love old movies. I used to dream of being a film director!
Even though magier is fully remote, I talk to my colleagues almost daily. We have regular meetings, and Friday check-out calls that are more fun and casual. Sometimes we talk about food or just random things. It gives me energy. I also really appreciate how kind and supportive everyone is – art directors, founders, other designers – it just feels like we have each other’s backs.
What Tasks Do You Enjoy Most?
I like the fast-paced projects, the ones with tight deadlines. It can feel intense, but I love that moment when the whole team pulls together and supports each other. It’s like a sport. You’re focused, your brain’s firing, and when it’s done, you can breathe again. That satisfaction is huge.
I enjoy working on ads and presentations, especially when the design is clean and the client feels a connection with it. But I also get inspired when I see others’ work, like the chocolate bar packaging project or the toothbrush boxes. I’d love to try more print design someday. It feels tangible, real, and a bit like physics with all the measuring involved.
What Do You Find Challenging?
Switching between different styles in a single day can be tough. New clients, unfamiliar aesthetics... it takes time to understand them. I think of it like friendship: at first, you don’t know what someone loves, and it takes time to connect and get in sync. But you still want to do your best from the start.
What’s the Most Valuable Thing You’ve Learned at magier?
That I’m in the right place. I recently went to Japan for vacation, and on the 17-hour flight back, I found myself missing the team and the work. That’s never happened before. Magier is the most structured yet calm place I’ve ever worked. No rush, no chaos, but support and mutual respect. I feel free, but also like I’m never alone. That balance is rare.
Three Words to Describe magier?
Magical. Collaborative. Structured.
Most Memorable Project?
One of my first tasks for a client named Jamie – I designed ads and a presentation. Later I saw on LinkedIn that they were using my presentation to pitch! That moment of seeing my work live, making a difference, really stayed with me.
Advice to Someone Joining magier?
Be curious. Take initiative. Don’t be afraid to speak up. Your voice matters here. There's room to grow and be yourself.
If Your Morning… Matcha Gave You a Superpower…
Teleportation! I’d love to work from anywhere – one day Japan, the next Rome – and still make it to team meetings!
